Dr. Wong Mun Yew, Managing Director
Dr Wong Mun Yew is the founder & CEO of Asia Genomics. He is also an angel investor, and supports a couple of start-ups in Singapore as advisor and mentor.
Mun Yew worked more than 10 years in the investment industry. He was an Asia Business Development Operating Partner at Formation8 Partners 2013-2016, a successful Silicon Valley technology venture capital fund, focusing on Singapore and South East Asia. He began his investment career with Bio*One Capital in 2005, a global healthcare private equity fund, before becoming Senior Vice President at EDB Investments Pte Ltd where he led EDBI’s cleantech investment team.
He has served as a director for Codexis Inc. (Nasdaq: CDXS), Amaranth Medical Inc., and was board observer in Fluidigm Corp (Nasdaq: FLDM), Revance Therapeutics (Nasdaq: RVNC) and Innovalight Inc (acquired by DuPont).
He also gained experience in business development and operations in healthcare services, and spent time in China as Vice President (International Operations) at Parkway Pantai Limited, a subsidiary of IHH Healthcare Berhad.
Prior to investing, Mun Yew practised clinical medicine for 7 years in Singapore.
Mun Yew holds a medical degree and Diploma in Dermatology from the National University of Singapore.
Jia Yi Har, General Manager
Jia Yi worked in the life sciences and healthcare industry for over ten years. Prior to joining Imagene Labs, she was the APAC Imaging Systems Life Cycle business manager at Philips Healthcare, where she built and grew new business areas to create additional revenue streams for the Philips Health Systems business.
Jia Yi was also previously a healthcare investment professional at Partners Group, a global asset management firm with asset under management of USD 40 billion. She was responsible for deal sourcing and business development with APAC healthcare and investment companies, and commercial due diligence on pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, healthcare services and healthcare IT assets.
Jia Yi holds an MSc in Environmental Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BSc in Life Sciences (Molecular & Cell Biology) from National University of Singapore. She has six years of laboratory experience conducting interdisciplinary research
in molecular genetics, microbiology and biophysics, and has published five scientific papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals.
Alina Uchida, Product Development Director
Alina has over ten years’ experience as a Clinical Western Herbalist & Aromatherapist. She spent her first three years of private practice in her hometown Sydney, Australia, at the holistic Life Natural Healing Clinic, where she consulted private and corporate clients. Her passion for natural medicine, wellness education and entrepreneurship led her to found Abundant Earth in the heart of Singapore’s CBD in 2004. The concept store – specializing in providing customized health & wellness solutions based on medicinal herbs & premium quality essential oils, combined with a natural healing clinic and educational space – was a first for Singapore. Since then, she has consulted for, created, developed, and managed personal care & wellness brands for various local lifestyle companies such as TWG, The Health Club, Hadara Aesthetic Boutique, HIC and Little Green Dot. Alina is an informative speaker and presenter for natural health and beauty. She has been a regular voice on the airwaves on Gold 90.5FM, where she presented weekly natural health tips and advice. In addition to her private practice and operating Abundant Earth, Alina enjoys sharing and empowering people with the knowledge of natural self-care and preventative health care. Her rare combination of clinical, technical & creative experience brings fresh perspective and relatable insights to her talks. She regularly facilitates educational sessions and hands-on workshops for Abundant Earth, NTUC Learning Hub, UOB and other lifestyle brands.
Celeste Ng, Finance Director
Celeste Ng is the Finance Director for Asia Genomics and its subsidiaries, where she oversees the group‘s finance department. She has more than 15 years of experience in both finance and commercial for multiple industries including Semiconductor chemicals, Apparel, PE invested conglomerate, IT and E-commerce. She has also exposure to APAC and Middle East regional financial operation and start-up ecosystem. Celeste Ng holds a Bachelor of Economics degree with major in International Business, ACCA, UK and is a member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.
Aslina Abdullah, Regional Business Development Manager
Aslina spent 16 years in the fitness industry. Starting out as a Personal Trainer, she gained broad cross functional experience through various roles after in managing operations, driving revenue and developing talent with leading international gym chains including Singapore’s first mega gym chain California Fitness. Her most recent role prior to joining Imagene Labs was Regional Vice President at Celebrity Fitness, one of South East Asia’s biggest fitness center operators who dominate the Indonesia and Malaysian markets. Her role covered the lengths of business improvement projects, membership life management and skills development within teams.
Having once based herself in the Indonesian and Malaysia capitals, this born and bred Singaporean loves connecting with people and experiencing the different cultural nuances of working in trans-national ecosystems.
Roy Chong, Business Development Manager
Roy’s career spans various roles in sales and business development. He played an integral role in building the sales portfolio of Vivant Resources and the Kibing Group in the Asian and North American construction industries. Part of his experience in the wellness industry involved being the founder and director of his own wellness business Neuganics, which creates and distributes premium health products made from natural ingredients. His specialty lies in creating new market channels through partnership marketing and engagement.
Reza Harith, Marketing & Community Manager
Reza’s forte lies in uncovering a brand’s personality and translating it into content and messages that inspires audiences. He honed this trait and trade for nearly a decade through a career spanning cross employment roles in brand communications, creative ideation, content development, strategic marketing and account servicing. Prior to joining Imagene Labs, Reza lived in Jakarta, Indonesia where he worked for Celebrity Fitness, one of South East Asia’s largest gym chains. As their Brand Communications Manager, he drove their global marketing communications and branding strategies. He has also worked with other market leaders in highly lucrative lifestyle industries including the world’s leading luxury concierge club Quintessentially Lifestyle. During his tenure in Public Relations, he managed a portfolio of lifestyle brands including luxury online retailers Net-a-Porter and Mr. Porter, and world renowned fashion house Louis Vuitton. Reza graduated with a Bachelor in Commerce from Murdoch University, with double majors in Marketing and Hospitality & Tourism Management.
Dr. Lionel Lim, Scientific Director (Head, Clinical Genomics)
Lionel brings a diverse breadth of scientific experience to Imagene Labs, having trained in microbiology, stem cell and cancer laboratories. He is proficient in numerous molecular biology techniques and adept at the latest in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies. Lionel was previously the laboratory manager at POLARIS@GIS, one of the first laboratories in Asia to receive College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation specifically for the use of NGS as a core clinical service. There, he led a diverse team in managing various aspects of Clinical Laboratory Operations including financial planning, assay development, workflow assignment, LIMS and IT integration, process improvement, quality management and safety. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California – San Francisco, both funded by a National Science Scholarship from the Agency for Science Technology and Research.
Hong Boon TOH, Associate Director, Operations Planning
Hong Boon graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, and King’s College London with a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences Research.
Hong Boon gained extensive laboratory operations and research knowledge from his career at Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), a leading research institute under A*Star, where he was involved in genotyping and Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS).
Hong Boon subsequently moved on to the role of Analyst, Project Coordinator and Functional Planner in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Regional Molecular Marker Laboratory at Syngenta, a Swiss agro-biotechnology multi-national corporation. He was part of the Leadership Team that leads the Laboratory in serving clients and collaborations globally. He was also involved in data analysis, management of global and regional projects, demand and resource planning, and management reporting for the APAC Regional Laboratory.
Prior to joining Imagene Labs, Hong Boon was involved in the setting up of embraceBio, a Singapore Company that assists researchers to source and recruit research volunteers and samples. He is the Assistant General Manager of embraceBio, and is overseeing it’s Operations, Business Development, Marketing and Community Outreach.
Eileen Lew, Associate Director, IT Architecture
Eileen Lew has more than 10 years of interdisciplinary research experience in the area of neurophysiological signal processing, computer vision and machine learning. She did her PhD in Computer, Communication and Information sciences at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland and thereafter as a postdoctoral researcher before relocating back to Asia. She was an academic staff in Swinburne University Technology of Sarawak, Malaysia prior to joining Asia Genomics. Eileen is passionate in bringing emerging technologies in artificial intelligence towards developing solutions for the healthcare industry. She is currently Asia Genomic’s Data Scientist.
Fajilatun Nahar, Full Stack Web Developer
Fajilatun obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from North South University, Bangladesh. She worked on the front ends for various applications at NUS, IDMI before deciding to expand and refine her developing skills with Imagene Labs. She is curious and enjoys work that challenges her to learn something new and stretches her web and software development skills in different directions.
Karen Fong, Marketing Manager (Malaysia)
Karen has several years of marketing and business development experience in industries ranging from FMCG to healthcare. Most recently, she has been responsible for developing Asia Genomics’ East Malaysia expansion strategies, as well as leading the group’s nationwide marketing initiatives. In an earlier role with the fastest growing local medical diagnostics company, Karen was instrumental in setting up a new lab and establishing key client partnerships. In a previous tenure at a leading FMCG group, she was a part of the strategic planning and communications division; in charge of marketing, public relation activities and key account management. Karen has a passion for brand partnerships and win-win client engagements, and aims to build mutually beneficial relationships with clients and partners.
Hasyim Sim, Laboratory Manager
Hasyim received his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Monash University, and Masters in Biotechnology (majoring in molecular biology) from the Queensland University of Technology. After his studies, Hasyim headed to Malaysia and worked in Genenews Malaysia – a molecular diagnostics start-up specialising in research and development for cancer risk assessment tests. Prior to joining Imagene Labs, he was with Sengenics Brunei where he was involved in setting up the laboratory and building his experience in microarray, PCR-based and next-generation sequencing technologies. He was also responsible for the management of two major Brunei government funded research projects.
David Teoh, Assistant Business Development Manager (Malaysia)
David began his career in the healthcare industry with BP Healthcare Group, a leading healthcare provider in Malaysia, where he led a sales & marketing team in Klang Valley. He then joined Asia Genomics where he continued building his experience in managing key accounts of large chain hospitals and top medical centres in Malaysia, before moving to their subsidiary Imagene Labs. David graduated from National University of Malaysia with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biotechnology with Management.
Lynette Mun, Business Development Manager (Malaysia)
Lynette’s career started in sales before she moved into operations and management. She has helped expand business for companies such as Wyann International and Bonia in Malaysia. Driven by her passion for helping people transform not only their physical appearance through their skin and bodyline, but also their self-confidence, she built her experience in the beauty and slimming industries to include overseeing a 21-outlet wellness chain brand. Her ability lies in opening new market through strategic partnership and engagements.
